#100T - Paul Runge
What a card: This is the 24th rookie card to appear in the 1985 Topps Traded set. I guess I should be calling these cards "pre-rookie cards," but that's a weird concept for me. A player's first card is his first card. Why did Bowman have to ruin everything?
My observation on the front: Runge wears that mid-1980s sketchy look, wispy mustache, on-the-verge of mullet hair.
More opinion from me: That hat's too high, too.
Something you might know: Runge spent his entire major league career with the Braves. In eight years, the most playing time he received was 50 games in 1985 when he recorded 110 at-bats.
Something you might not know: For the length of Runge's MLB playing career, from 1981-88, the National League employed an umpire also named Paul Runge. I'm dying to know what player Paul Runge's batting stats were when umpire Paul Runge was behind the plate.
My observation on the back: Raines' 75 stolen bases in 1984 has been equaled or exceeded in the majors less than 15 times and 11 of those times came from 1985-92.

Retrosheet has umpire game logs so it wasn't hard to figure out. Runge played in five games with Runge behind the plate. He had three hits in fifteen ABs (all singles), with a run scored and an RBI. He walked twice and struck out four times.
Runge has spent 16 of the last 26 years as a minor league manager.
